Currently, we’re assembling (and crossing off) our “to-to” list that includes:
We have formed a small group of concerned citizens and call ourselves "Friends of Caribou Cemetery."
We are raising funds under the auspices of the Nederland Area Historical Society. Your donations are TAX-DEDUCTIBLE, and we thank you.
We are assembling and researching all available cemetery-related photos and documents. These include photos from the Carnegie Library in Boulder, the Western History collection at Denver Public Library, the Nederland Historical Society, and additional information from families and friends on the website FindAGrave.
We are engaging the community in outreach, with an upcoming presentation on January 30, 2023, at the Denver Mining Club.
We are budgeting and planning for fencing and interpretive signs.
When the snow melts, we will be cleaning debris, installing the fencing and signs, and performing more work on the ground in order to find and identify gravesites. We even will have the help of the Colorado Forensic Canines, an association of handlers and their dogs who are trained to locate historic human remains.
